A demonstration of how to subscribe to the NWIITT RSS feeds using NewsFire - an RSS Reader for Mac OSX
Navigate to the NWIITT RSS Feed Page (This example is using Safari)
Right click on the appropriate feed link and select Copy Link from the contextual menu (2). This copies the URL of the link to the Clipboard.
Select File > Add Feed.
Ensure that Web Feed is selected (1)
Ensure that the cursor is in the Address field (1) and press Command + V to paste the URL of the copied link into the Address field.
The Name field (2) is automatically populated using the name that was defined by the feed author. If you want to change the name, simply type into the Name field. The text in the Name field is displayed in the Feeds List and therefore should be relatively short and meaningful.
Click the Add button (3).
An appropriately-named entry will appear in the Feeds List (1). The top line of text ( "NWIITT Online Meeting - 11 March 2008" in this example) is the Headline of the first item (NewsFire can be configured to hide the headline and just display the Feed name - see later step). The green number to the right is the number of new (i.e. unread) items.
The actual feed items appear in the right hand pane (2). The feed will automatically be updated as new items are added and deleted by the feed author.
To read an item, simply click on it and the full text of the item will appear in the right hand Pane (1).
Use the Navigation Arrows (2) to navigate between the items in the current feed.
To return to the list of items for the feed, click the feed name on the left hand side (3).
To delete a feed, right click on the name of the feed in the Feeds List and select the Remove option from the menu (1) . You will be asked to confirm that you wish to delete the feed.
Use the Preferences to configure NewsFire (Select NewsFire > Preferences... from the menu). As stated in a previous step, it is possible to configure the Feed List appearance through the preferences.
Click the Appearance button (1).
Select the appropriate option from the Feed List Appearance section (2).
The Feed List is immediately updated with the new settings (3).
