Mike Thomas has almost 20 years experience in the IT industry, primarily within training, helpdesk support, website development and application development. For the majority of those 20 years, Mike has worked as an IT Trainer, delivering and designing both application and technical courses on a wide range of subjects including Microsoft Office, database development and web development.
As a trainer, Mike is equally comfortable with group or one-to-one training. He lists amongst his qualities his patience, his ability to 'put the learner at ease' and the fact he is able to draw on his own experiences with using software in the 'real world'. Mike has extensive experience of working in a team environment, commanding the respect of, and liaising with, others at all levels of an organisation.
Mike's employment portfolio includes a number of national training companies and international organisations. He currently works in a small team at a large multinational company in the North West of England where his responsibilities include delivering IT courses and 1:1 coaching and developing custom MS Office-based and web-based solutions. In May 2008, Mike was promoted to the position of Deputy Team Leader.
Mike has been a member of the Institute of IT Training since its inception in 1996, joining initially as a Full Member but gaining the status of Fellow in 2005. In 2004, along with Elaine Giles, Mike became Joint Chair of the North West Regional Group of The Institute (NWIITT). In addition to delivering demonstrations and presentations at monthly meetings, Mike and Elaine are also responsible for maintaining the NWIITT website, maintaining a dialogue with the IITT and devising and promoting the schedule of live and virtual seminars.
IT encompasses most aspects of Mike's life...along with Elaine Giles, he is a presenter on MacBites - a podcast relating to all thing Apple. He also runs a couple of hugely popular sports-related websites (Munich58.co.uk and beachsoccer-online.com) as well as providing IT tips-and-tricks and tutorials via his blog at mthomas.co.uk.
